Sorry I haven't been posting in the last few days! My laptop broke and I had to buy myself a new one (I got a Mac this time, so happy!) but it took a while to arrive:
^Being silly.
I'm still getting used to it and also in the middle of changing my summer schedule--I quit my job and I'm in the process of getting a new one but I don't know what my shifts will be like yet so I'm not 100% sure when I'll be back to posting regularly again. Hopefully soon.
Drink up baby; stay up all night with the things you could do, you wont but you might. The potential
So the "break" part of my summer break is almost over; next Monday I start work again and I'll be taking one class as well (Statistics...ugh). I'm not crazy about those plans but I am happy that I can stop dreading them and just work on getting through them now, that class is just six weeks and that'll put me halfway through summer, and the faster time passes, the more steps I take, the closer I am to finally graduating. Truth be told I'm pretty worried. As it turns out my fairy tale literature professor is being really nice and agreed to write a recommendation letter for me to apply to grad school, which means...I have to apply to grad school. I was planning on it anyways, just wasn't sure if I would do it my senior year of college and now I suppose I have to...my plan of action as of a few days was kind of to move out to LA the summer after graduation without having to worry about how to pay crazy-high tuition for a masters degree and just focus on getting a job to cover my living expenses, which would give me some extra time to work on productions (read: work for free) and then once I was a California resident I could apply and do it if I felt it was necessary. My concern now is whether I'll be able to defer if I do get into the school I'm applying to...I know it's possible but I'm not sure I'll be able to chose that once I'm so elated that I got in in the first place, you know? I'll be too excited and I'll probably rush and accept the admission and wind up with a lot of debt. I don't know. We'll see, I'm going off on tangents here. I find that when I'm a little worried I do my best at joining together icons I feel are relevant to each other so I hope you guys enjoy this one...
Anyone who can touch you can hurt or heal you. Anyone who can reach you can love you or leave you. So be gentle...
Most of our life is a series of images. They pass us by like towns on the highway. But sometimes a moment stuns us as it happens and we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment, every part of it, will live on forever. -One Tree Hill
Truth doesn’t change. Truth is one thing. It covers all things which touch the heart--honor and pride and pity and justice and courage and love. - William Faulkner, "The Bear"
Love doesn't always come dressed in the package we want. It doesn't arrive on our schedule and it doesn't follow our guidelines and rules. It is love. It is intangible, unpredictable, and certainly uncontrollable. This is what makes it so wonderful. We need to remember to be grateful and honored by its presence in our lives. ...Be careful to not let it pass you by just because it doesn't present itself the way you think it should. -Kimberly Kirberger
A stumble may prevent a fall. -English Proverb
And I'm beyond your peripheral vision so you might want to turn your head 'cause someday you might find you are starving and eating all of the words that you said. -Ani DiFranco
And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.
Today Yesterday was fantastic:
-Production meeting/casting for a short in the morning…which turned into getting asked to be producer for three more shorts that some of the directors collaborators are shooting. I’m.getting.four.credits.this.summer. In other words, I’m gonna be crazy-busy but I’m thrilled about it, I'll be getting so much experience!
-TGIFridays California Club sandwich…I swear I hadn’t had avocados for like 3 years.
-Afternoon spent at B&N reading Nylon, a special-edition magazine about secret societies, and relevant sections of Film School Confidential…that kinda says a lot about me,lol. I also bought four of Hemingway’s novels on sale, including A Farewell to Arms (aka my favorite book ever, I’d lost my copy).
-Ice-cream run...I'd never had any with cake frosting in it but it's delicious!!
Now for the post:
Results aside, the ability to have complete faith in another human being is one of the finest qualities a person can possess. -Haruki Murakami, the wind-up bird chronicle.
Before we met, I was as lost as a person could be, and yet you saw something in me that somehow gave me direction again. -Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks
I always used to care so much, Until I found peace with myself, Because suddenly, I wasn't concerned, If they were gossiping or partying, Or if I was all alone, Being me is enough.
Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination. -Roy Goodman
It’s easy to be miserable. Being happy is tougher — and cooler. -Thom Yorke
I don't care much for facts, am not much interested in them, you cant stand a fact up, you've got to prop it up, and when you move to one side a little and look at it from that angle, it's not thick enough to cast a shadow in that direction. -William Faulkner
Stories never really end, even if the books like to pretend they do. Stories always go on. They don't end on the last page, any more than they begin on the first page. -Cornelia Funke, Inkheart
While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart. -St Francis of Assisi
Oh yes, the past can hurt, but the way that I see it you can either run from it, or learn from it. -The Lion King
So, this post isn't like my usual, but I felt the need to write it and share it because I imagine someone else out there needs a reminder too.
I don't think I tell my mom nearly enough but I'm thankful for so many things about her: 1. That she took me out to see Star Trek last night...my mom HATES going to the movies, she usually falls asleep but she put on such an effort to enjoy herself (it was even her idea to go!) and to follow the plot and not grimace at all the showy action sequences that she's totally not interested in. It was sweet. 2. That she's absolutely ferocious-protective of me but at the same time refuses to let me feel sorry for myself when things go wrong...I owe it to her that I know how to be proactive and have common sense. 3. That she goes shopping for herself and comes back with bags of stuff for me (and that I never even have to return them because she knows my taste). She's just always thinking of me and exemplifies selflessness. 4. That she's been so strong all these years, always finding a way out of every situation. My dad left us when I was four and I literally have not seen or heard of him since, but thanks to her I've never stopped having a place to live and food to eat and someone to confide in. She's worked every job imaginable: cemetery property salesperson (no kidding, when I was 7 I could give you detailed pitches of the benefits of different kinds of graves, I'd go along with her on her meetings), waitress, van driver, real estate school director of recruitment, event staff, etcetera but she always had the time to help me on a science project or a book report. Despite all her flaws and how nagging she can be when she wants me to do something for my own good, she is hands down the most incredible, loyal, hard-working person I know and I'm forever indebted to her for all the things she's taught me. So I'd just like to dedicate this post to her.
So, as the title of the post says...I'm back! For a good 4 months, and then we'll see :) This post is just a little taste of what's to come, I only have 3 summer classes (and they're not all at once) so I'll definitely have free time to make lots of improvements. In a few days I'll probably even revamp the layout/playlist. Life is good right now, I just finished my junior year of college a few days ago (crazy how time flies!) and my grades were posted up today (all A's!), so these months I'll be dedicating to figuring out what I want to do and where I'd like to go once I graduate next May...I have a pretty clear idea of my general direction but I've got plentyyy of specifics to decide (a.k.a: grad school applications!). That said, I'll probably post about this a little bit (or a lot).
Anyways, it's already feeling a little difficult getting back into the Xanga loop after being away for such a long time, but I'll be trying to catch up with all my subbies and friends and hopefully a lot of you are still around/not mad that I may have overlooked a few comments/messages from like, months ago. I <3 you all and it definitely wasn't on purpose!

I won't keep circling the ocean forever, hoping I'll spot your island on the horizon, uncolonised and flying an old, tattered flag. You on the shore with the sand between your toes.
You’ve gotta swim Swim in the dark There’s no shame in drifting Feel the tide shifting And wait for the spark You’ve gotta swim Don’t let yourself sink Just find the horizon I promise you it’s not as far as you think
